DEPARTMENTAL POLICES

Admission and Retention Policies

A. Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Arts in English Language

1) Policies for new students contained in the general provisions are applied.
2) Senior High School Average Grade of at least 80%.
3) Has at least average IQ.
4) Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.

B. Admission Criteria for Shifters

1) Policies for shifters contained in the general provisions are applied.
2) Shifters are accepted up to third-year level only.
3) Has at least average IQ.
4) Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.
5) The decision to admit shifters is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator or the Dean.

C. Admission Criteria for Transferees

1) Policies for transferees contained in the general provisions are applied.
2) Transferees are accepted up to third year level only.
3) Has at least average IQ.
4) Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.
5) The decision to admit transferees is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator or the Dean.

D. Admission Criteria for Returnees

1) Policies for returnees contained in the general provisions are applied.
2) Must be physically fit.
3) Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.
4) Must be of good moral character.
5) The decision to admit returnees is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator or the Dean.

E. Retention / Promotion Policies

1) A student is promoted to the succeeding year level if the following requirements are met:

i. Must have passed at least 85% of the subjects taken in the preceding two semesters.
ii. Must be deemed physically and psychologically fit.

2) A student who had failure(s) in the previous semester shall be placed under academic probation and will be given reduced subject load for the succeeding semesters.
3) Any failed subject will be re-enrolled once.
4) A student is dropped from the roll of the program, if:

i. The student fails in more than 30% of his /her total unit load.
ii. The student fails in a repeated subject.

5) A student who will be diagnosed with psychological–related problems shall be advised to stop and will be re-admitted only upon clearance with psychiatrist or psychologist.

F. Practicum / Internship Training Program

1) A student who fails to comply all the subjects from first year until third year as stipulated in the curriculum cannot join the internship.
2) Only officially enrolled students are allowed to join the pinning ceremony.
3) The general and specific policies for practicum/internship are stipulated in the Practicum / Internship Handbook.

G. Graduation Requirements

1) In order to qualify for graduation, a student must comply the following:

i. Must have passed and completed the academic requirements for the program.
ii. Must have a passing grade across practicum/internship rotations.
iii. Must have complied all requirements for practicum.

2) Graduating students who have accumulated 15 or more extension days for whatever reasons shall be excluded from the Graduation Rites.

The Bachelor of Science in Biology conforms to the general guidelines for academic policies and general rules and regulations of the College as stipulated in this student handbook. However, additional policies that will help hone a biology student to become a professional biologist must be observed.

A. Admission and Retention Policies for Transferees/Shifters

a) Transferees/shifters to the program are accepted up to the third-year level only. Students without failures are admitted to the program but must have a grade of 78% or better in all biology professional subjects that will be credited.
b) Should the grade fall below 78%, the student will be deloaded of one professional subject in the first semester that he/she will enrol. The student must have an average of 80% or better in all the professional subjects enrolled by the end of the semester to be given a full professional subject load in the succeeding semester. Transferees/shifters must pass the interview and entrance examination for transferees/shifters as well as undergo screening by the Program Coordinator.
c) Transferees/shifters with failing marks must also pass the interview and entrance examination for transferees/shifters as well as undergo screening by the Program Coordinator before given a LAST CHANCE status. Student must not fail any of the remaining subjects to stay in the program.

B. Promotion to higher level (continuing students)

a) Students must not fail any of the enrolled subjects for a given semester. Students with failed marks will be put under probation.
b) Students who are under probation will be deloaded. Subjects to be loaded will be under the discretion of the department dean/program coordinator.
c) Students who fail in any repeated subject or fail 30% or more than the total number of subjects enrolled will not be admitted to the program anymore.

C. Practicum Policies

a) Students will be admitted to the practicum program after completion of the academic requirements, including thesis writing.
b) Students must pass the pre-practicum comprehensive exam and submit pertinent requirements, a semester prior to the scheduled practicum deployment.
c) Students must have a grade of 75% or better in the Practicum to be recommended for graduation. Refer to BS Biology Practicum Handbook for details of the policies and other pertinent information.

D. Graduation Requirements

a) Students must pass the practicum program.
b) A student must not have an extension duty of more than 30 days to be included in the graduation rites. Refer to Biology Practicum handbook on policies for students with more than 30 days extension.

E. Criteria for Practicum Efficiency Award

a) The Practicum Efficiency Award is given to students who have displayed commendable conduct and rendered exemplary service to their institutions and have gained a grade of not less than 88% in the Practicum Program, must not have any grade below 80% in all professional subjects, and no failing grade in all other subjects. All Biology Interns who have met the basic criteria set by the department and the College is eligible for the award.
b) A Biology Intern who will be recommended for this award must not have incurred any duty extension hours.
c) The Biology Intern who qualifies for the Practicum Efficiency Award must be recommended by the Site Supervisors, Practicum Instructor and the Department Dean.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Majors in Financial Management, Human Resource Management and Marketing Management

(1) Admission Criteria:

(a) Senior High School Average Grade of 80% or better.
(b) Passed the SPC entrance examination and other admission requirements.

(2) Transferees:

Policies contained in the general provisions are applied.

(3) Shifters:

(a) Shifters are accepted up to third-year level only.
(b) A shifter with failure may be admitted.
(c) The decision to admit shifters is at the discretion of the Department Dean.

(4) Retention / Promotion Policies:

(a) A student is promoted to the succeeding year level if the following requirements are met:

1.) Must have passed at least 75% of the subjects taken in the preceding two semesters.

(b) A failed subject may be re-enrolled only twice.
(c) A student who has failure(s) in the previous semester shall be placed under Academic Probation and will be given reduced subject load for the following semester as prescribed for by the Department Policies.
(d) A student is dropped from the roll of the program, if:

1.) The student accumulates failure in 27 units, or 9 three-unit subjects from first semester of entry to SPC, and,
2.) The student fails in a repreated subject the third time.

(e) Maximum study period: strictly six (6)years.

(5) Practicum Internship Program

The general and specific policies of the Practicum Internship Program are stipulated in the Business Administration Practicum/Internship Handbook.

A. Admission Criteria for BS Education

a. Policies for new students contained in the general provisions are applied.
b. Senior High School Average Grade of at least 83%.
c. Has at least average IQ.
d. Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.

B. Classroom / Continuing Students:

a. Students who are about to enter the second year must undergo and pass the following assessments on the prescribed schedules:

    1. Teacher’s Aptitude Test (TAT) given on the second semester of first year.
    2. Interview/Test in Spoken English (TSE)

b. As a graduation requirement, student teaching must be the focal point of the Fourth Year level. No student shall be allowed to undergo student teaching (practicum) unless he/she has completed all academic subjects.

b. Shifters are accepted up to third-year level only.

b. Transferees are accepted up to third-year level only.

a. Policies for returnees contained in the general provisions are applied.
b. Must be physically fit.
c. Must be deemed psychologically and emotionally stable.
d. Must be of good moral character.
e. The decision to admit returnees is at the discretion of the Program Coordinator or the Dean.

ii. The student fails in a repeated subject
