SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

I. ACADEMIC POLICIES

A student of any nationality or religious belief who is willing to comply with the school policies, rules, and regulations is welcome to San Pedro College.

A. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

A.1. NEW STUDENTS

    1. Must pass the entrance examination given by the school (for non-SPC Grade 10 completers)
    2. Must file a formal application for admission including the following documents:

a. Latest Copy of the Report Card (FORM 138)/ Certificate of Completion
b. Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) copies of Birth Certificate (Original & Photocopy)
c. Certificate of Good Moral Character
d. Student Information Sheet with 1pc 2×2 picture
e. For DUAL CITIZEN, Photocopy of both Parent’s and student’sPassport.
f. For voucher beneficiaries/ recipients – Must present Voucher Certificate with corresponding Learner’s Reference Number (LRN)

A.2. TRANSFEREES (Incoming Grade 12)

a. Letter of Application (letter of intent to transfer to SPC)
b. Must pass the entrance examination
c. Submit the documentary requirements mentioned in A.1, 1 – 2.

  • The school reserves the right to refuse admission of any student who fails to comply with the Admission Requirements.

A.3. FOREIGN STUDENTS

    1. Below 18 years old – Special Study Permit (SSP)
    2. 18 years old and above – Student Visa

Requirements:

a. Original and photocopy of passport.
b. Medical Clearance from the Bureau of Quarantine
c. Personal History Statement with 2×2 recently taken photo (5 copies)
d. NBI Clearance
e. Other documents (authenticated by the Philippine Embassy/Consular Office in the student’s country of origin)

i. Scholastic Record (translated into English)
ii. Clear Photocopy of Birth Certificate
iii. Police Clearance
iv. Notarized Affidavit of Proof of Adequate Financial Support to cover expenses for the student’s accommodation and subsistence as well as school fees and incidental expenses.
v. Bank Certification of Deposit

B. PROCEDURE FOR ENROLMENT

  1. resent the required documents to the Admissions Office.
    * For applicants of academic Scholarship and Voucher recipients/beneficiaries secure Approval Form from the Office of the Scholarship Committee.
  2. Submit the required documents to the Registrar’s Office and secure a Student Registration Form
  3. Submit the required documents to the Registrar’s Office and secure a Student Registration Form.
    * For Academic Scholars and Voucher recipients/beneficiaries submit theApproval Form to the Cashier’s Office.
  4. Have the School Uniform Measurement at the designated area.

C. FEES AND PAYMENTS

To be officially enrolled, the student has to pay the required fees during enrolment. The school reserves the right to withhold from any student the Form 138, certifications, and/or transfer credentials if he/she had not fully settled his/her financial accountabilities.

  1. Schedule of Payments
    a. Pay required downpayment upon enrolment
    b. Submit Voucher Certificate (for Voucher beneficiaries)
    c. Students’ account balance – payable in 8 installments (August to May)
  2. Delayed Payments
    a. The parent / guardian should see the Comptroller two days before the 1st day of examination to secure the Temporary Permit.
    b. Any past due account must be settled before the enrolment for the next school year or prior to the release of any school credentials. Payment for such accounts must be made in cash.
  3. Forms of Payment
    The school prefers to receive school payments in cash basis. Payments can also be made through the SPC’s accredited partner banks. Payments through checks are also accepted.

D. DISCOUNTS, WITHDRAWALS AND REFUND

  1. Discounts
    The school provides 3 types of discounts:
      1. Full Payment Discount – A five percent (5%) discount (on tuition fee only) is given when full payment is made on all required fees upon enrolment or before the 1st day of classes.
      2. Sibling / Family Discount (Effective SY 2018 – 2019) A tuition fee discount is given to a family with three or more children currently enrolled in the same school year in San Pedro College:
           a. 20% tuition fee discount for the youngest with 3 siblings simultaneously enrolled
           b. 35% tuition fee discount for the youngest with 4 siblings simultaneously enrolled
           c. 50% tuition fee discount for the youngest with 5 or more siblings simultaneously enrolled
           A student can only avail of one discount privilege. Fringe benefit (for SPC employees only).
  2. Withdrawal and Refund
    A student who withdraws his/her enrolment from SPC shall notify the Cashier’s office of such withdrawal by submitting a duly accomplished withdrawal form and an accompanying letter to the Cashier for the release of any refund.

    2.1 Withdrawal Procedure

    1. Must present a letter to the Program Head, expressing his/her intent to withdraw from the entire program, stating the reason for such withdrawal, duly signed by the student and his/ her parent or guardian.
    2. Secure appropriate form at the Office of the Registrar.
    3. Proceed to the Finance Office for assessment and payment.
    4. Withdrawal from the entire program is considered official after theWithdrawal Form has been signed by the cashier, and submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

2.2 Refund

a. During enrolment period, but before the start of classes – charges will cover the full amount of the Registration fees, ID, and Student Handbook.
b. Within the first week of classes (A week is defined as having classes at least 3 days from Monday to Saturday.) – charges will cover 10% only of the total assessment, regardless of whether or not he/she has actually attended classes.
c. Within the second week of classes – charges will cover 20% only of the total assessment, regardless of whether or not he/she has actually attended classes.
d. From the third week onwards – total charges for the whole year will be collected regardless of whether or not he/she has actually attended classes.
e. If withdrawal is due to any of the following reasons, charges will cover only pertinent fees up to and including the last month of attendance.
• Death of a parent or the person who supports the student (Death Certificate).
• Serious injury or illness which renders the student incapable of pursuing his/her studies (Medical Certificate issued by the School Physician).

E. CLASS ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES

  1. Only those who are officially enrolled shall be admitted to class. A student is required to present his/her Student Registration Form (SRF) to all his/her teachers during his/her first attendance in class.
  2. Punctuality and regular attendance must be observed by students during the entire school year. Absences shall be counted from the first day of classes regardless of the student’s date of enrolment.
  3. Tardiness is not tolerated in class. Students are late if they are not present within the 15 minutes of the class and are absent if they arrive thereafter.
  4. Warning shall be given to habitual latecomers. Three-time tardiness is considered one absence.
  5. A student who leaves the class after the roll call, and does not return or who returns only at the end of the period shall be considered as cutting classes and shall be dealt accordingly.
  6. A student will be marked absent when not in class
  7. Excuse letters must be presented to the Program Coordinator upon returning to school. An Admission Slip issued by the Program Coordinator shall be presented to the subject teachers.
  8. Absence is considered excused based on the following reasons:
    • Illness with medical certifcate validated by the School Physician. When a student’s illness requires him/her to rest or stay away from school for a day or more parents/guardians should inform the class adviser. The stdudent concerned is required to see the school Physician when he/she reports back to class.
    • Death of the immediate member of the family (parents and siblings, spouse and children) with valid Death Certificate:
    • Attendance or participation in school related activities, provided, there is a validation from the concerned school authority or written communication to such effect:
    • Calamities in any form upon presentation of proof or evidence:
    • General transport strike.
  9. Any student who accumulates more than the allowable number of absences in a particular subject shall be debarred and will get a mark of “Failed” as his final grade for the semester regardless of his performance in the class on the date of the debarment.
  10. The maximum number of absences allowed during regular semester is twenty percent (20%) of the total number of hours per subject.
  11. A student who has been late or absent in a particular class is responsible for the lesson, assignment, and requirement given in class that day.
  12. A student who misses a task due to unexcused absence shall be given a score of zero or its grade equivalent.

F. SCHOOL TERM AND EXAMINATIONS

  1. The academic year consists of two (2) semesters. Semestral work is divided into two (2) grading periods.
  2. Quarterly assessments are given during regular semester.
  3. Students must obtain examination permit way ahead of the examination time. A temporary permit must be secured from the Finance Office for students who have not paid for the scheduled examination.
  4. Silence must be maintained while examination is in progress, be it in examination rooms or in the corridors.
  5. The desk of students must be cleared of any notes or books, gadgets or any electronic devices except those that the instructor allows them to have on hand.
  6. Students should raise their hands to call the attention of the instructor or proctor if they encounter any problem with their examination papers.
  7. No student is allowed to communicate with his or her seatmate in any form while the examination is in progress; such act is considered cheating.
  8. A student who is late during the examination is allowed to take the exam as long as no one has submitted the exam paper and exited the examination room.
  9. A special examination shall be given when the reason of absence is considered excused or valid. It will be given on a scheduled date specified by the Program Head.
  10. For an unexcused absence/ tardiness during the examination, a student will only have eighty percent (80%) of the raw score. The special examination fee is payable at the Cashier’s Office of which a Special Examination Permit is issued.
  11. Failure to take the Special Examination in any quarter will mean a raw score of zero (0) for the said exam.
  12. During quarterly examinations, students who finish ahead of the others may submit their papers and leave the examination room quietly. However, they are prohibited from standing by or loitering at the corridor while examinations are still in progress.
  13. Discussion about examinations within hearing of others, who are still taking their examination, is strictly prohibited.
  14. Cheating during examinations will be dealt with accordingly. Any student caught cheating during examinations will automatically get a test result equivalent to zero. For purposes of discipline, cheating is considered a major offense.
  15. A student who is late for a quiz or periodical examination must finish his exam on time as his other classmates who started on time. Said student cannot compel his instructor to backtrack on the items he missed or grant him an extension time.
  16. Written works and quarterly assessments must be returned to the students within two course meetings or sessions from the date of the examination. Quarterly assessments are returned to the instructors after the answers to the questions have been discussed.
  17. Complaints regarding the checking of exam papers or the computation of grades should be raised within a week after the papers were returned or the grades have been released. No request for rechecking of exam papers or recomputation of grades will be entertained after this period has elapsed.

G. GRADING SYSTEM

The SPC Senior High School Program uses the averaging grading system. The semestral final ratings are obtained by computing the average of the two quarterly grades. The general average is computed by adding all the numerical ratings in all subject areas, and then divided by the number of subjects.

A Final Grade of 75 or higher in all learning areas allows the student to be promotedto the next grade level. (DepEd Order #8, series 2015)

2. Did Not Meet Expectations in a prerequisite subject in a learning area
Must pass remedial classes for failed competencies in the subject before being allowed to enroll in the higher-level subject
3. Did Not Meet Expectations in any subject or learning area at the end of the semester
Must pass remedial classes for failed competencies in the subjects or learning areas to be allowed to enroll in the next semester. Otherwise the learner must retake the subjects failed.
4. Must pass all subjects or learning areas in Senior High School
Earn the Senior High School Diploma

If a student fails in four (4) subjects in a given school year, the student is required to re-enroll on the same year level taking only the failed subjects.

H. SELECTION OF HONORS

H.1. Semestral/ Graduation Honors

a. The academic load of a candidate for honors must be equivalent to full load as prescribed by his/her academic level.
b. Any candidate for honor must not incur any deficiency at the time of evaluation for the awards.
c. Any candidate for honor must not have been involved in any major infraction of school rules and regulations.
d. The Certificate of Honor shall be awarded to students who meet the following standards of excellence:
      With Highest Honor – a GA of 98% or better with no grade below 88%.
      With High Honor – a GA of 95% or better with no grade below 86%.
      With Honor – a GA of 90% or better with no grade below 84%.

H.2. Graduation Honors

1. Requirements for graduation honors: 
Valedictorian
   ➢ consistent full-time SPC student since Grade 11.
   ➢ general rating of 98% or better with no grade below 85% in any area*
Salutatorian
   ➢ consistent full-time SPC student since Grade 11.
   ➢ general rating of 95% or better with no grade below 85% in any area*

Note:

      • Any area means: Academics/WPA, Deportment, and Leadership and Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Involvement
      • General rating means: Average WPA in two years, as the case may be.

        2. The selection of the graduating class VALEDICTORIAN and SALUTATORIAN shall be based on the following norms:

3. The evaluation of grades shall include both the semestral and summer GA’s.
4. Any candidate for honor must not have undergone character probation.

I. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

I.1. Academic Awards

    1. Honor Certificates are awarded to students who meet the criteria for honors for first to second semester.
    2. During the graduation day, the following awards will be given: a. Class Valedictorian
      b. Class Salutatorian
    3. Academic Excellence Award is given to a graduating student who garners
      the highest academic rating.

I.2. Academic Awards

    1. A non-academic award refers to the recognition given to graduating students with outstanding accomplishments in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
      a. Leadership Excellence Award
      b. Campus Journalism Award
      c. Community Service Award
      d. Institutional Service Award
      e. Philomene Labrecque Award
      f. Distinction Award in Inter-School Competition
          f1. Research Category
          f2. Academic Category
          f3. Sports Category

      g. Distinction Awards in Extra and Co-curricular Activities
    2. Requisites
      a. The candidate must have manifested his full understanding and acceptance of the Core Values of the college.
      b. He/She must not be under character probation.
      c. His/Her GA is at least 85% with no failing grade in any area.
    3. Criteria for Awards

a. Leadership Excellence Award

• The candidate must be a full time student.
• He/She must possess good moral character. His/Her deportment shall be evaluated by the faculty and other school officials who have observed and worked with him/her.
• He/She must have contributed something for the good of the school and the local community.
• He/She must have shown leadership skills and performed leadership roles and achievements worthy of emulation by the students.
• He/She must be recommended by his/her class organization, and/or club through their adviser and moderator.
• He/She must be a bonafide member and officer of a duly recognized campus organization.
• He/She must have at least 90% average in extra and co-curricular involvement.
• The award is open to graduating students only.

b. Campus Journalism Award

• The candidate must be a staff member of the school publication, the Petroglyphs, for two years.
• He/She must have consistently written articles, which have strong positive impact on the school and the local community.
• He/She must not have breached the Journalism Code of Ethics.
• He/She must be recommended by the technical moderator of the school publication and the OSA.

c. Community Service Award

• He/She must have organized any outreach activities either schoolbased or community-based projects, or have participated exceptionally in any high-impact CEES activities.
• He/She has been a volunteer in any CES projects and programs for two years.
• He/She must be recommended by the CEES Director and the Head of Student Affairs, and/or his/her Club Moderator.

d. Institutional Service Award

• This honor is given to a student or group of students who have rendered service to the college beyond the call of duty.
• The candidate/s must manifest acceptance of the college mission and he/they must have proven himself/themselves outstanding in school service.
• Concurrence of the majority of the Teachers and the approval of the President is necessary.

e. Philomene Labrecque Award

• He/She must have 2 years residency at SPC.
• He/She must be involved in his parish activities, and duly recommended in writing by the parish priest where he/she regularly works.
• He/She must be regularly involved in the liturgical/pastoral activities of the Spirituality and Formation Center (SpiCE).
• He/She must be recommended by at least two (2) of his/her instructors in Religious Studies and by the members of the SpiCE Team.

f. Distinction Award in Inter-School Competitions

f1. Research Category

• This award is given to the candidate(s) for graduation who won in research competitions held outside of San Pedro College (Top 3 in Regional, National, or International Competitions).
• He/she is recommended by the RPO as endorsed by the Program Head.

f2. Academic Category

• Winners in the inter-school academic competitions will be awarded during the Commencement Exercises. Only candidate for graduation will receive the award during the said exercises. (Top 3 in Regional, National, or International Competitions).
• He/she is recommended by the Program Head.

f3. Sports/ Cultural Category

• Winners in the regional and national competitions will be awarded during the Commencement Exercises. Only candidate for graduation will receive the award during the said exercises. (Top 3 in Regional, National, or International Competitions).

e. Distinction Award in Extra and Co-Curricular Activities

• The candidate must be a full time student in a school year.
• He/She must possess good moral character.
• He/She must have excelled on the various contests/competitions in the campus, or off-campus where he/she is sent as a representative of the school.

Note: The Administration reserves the right to give awards to deserving graduates.

J. SCHOLARSHIP

J.1.Academic Scholarship is given to incoming Grade 11 students who completed the junior high school garnering the top honors. The applicants must be duly certified by the Principal or Registrar of the school where they came from.

*The scholar should meet the required standard academic grades for scholars, i.e. no incomplete grades, no grades below 80% and no failing marks.
*The scholar shall not drop or change any of his/her subject.

d) Family Discount (for 2 or more simultaneously enrolled siblings. The youngest receives the discount.)
