Culminating a week-long slate of activities for the institutionโ€™s 70th founding anniversary, San Pedro College (SPC) administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests gathered for the gala night and grand alumni homecoming hosted at The Tent, Azuela Cove on Oct. 1.

Following a grand entrance prepared for the SPC board of trustees, management committee, distinguished alumni, and invited guests, a joint opening salvo was rendered by SPC Kultura and Kaalam Dance Company (KDC) to formally commence the event.

SPC Alumni Association President Remark Mortalla underlined the diverse fields beyond medicine in which SPCians have excelled throughout the schoolโ€™s history; he implored the alumni to remain faithful to the values and traditions of the institution as they advance through their respective careers.

โ€œAs we savor this moment, let us uphold the tradition [of SPC], preserve our heritage, and carry forward this legacy of excellence and loving service for the next 70 generations to come,โ€ Mortalla said in his opening remarks.

This message was echoed by College President Aida Frencillo, who reminded the alumni that regardless of where they are, they will remain as the most visible reflection of the institutionโ€™s legacy.

After the preliminary messages, a short film anchored on the message โ€œI am Pedroโ€ depicted SPCโ€™s growth, rooting back from its inception as a pioneer nursing school in Mindanao, followed by a toast led by SPC Alumni Association Treasurer Emmanuel Ernesto Violan.

Throughout the evening, segments were highlighted by the recognition of several alumni who received Platinum Leadership Awards for their contributions in different sectors.

Recipients for the Platinum Leadership Award in Government Service included Lorenzo Benjamin Villafuerte, Agustine Louise Seras, Reomar Bucao, Myrocel Clarin Balili, Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu, and Jessica Bonguyan, who were honored for their impact in public service and national security.

For the Platinum Leadership Award in the Health Sector, Jared Paul Golidtum, Daryl Joel Dumdum, Al-Nazaer Usop, Carlo Erwin Panelo, and Alicia Tullo were recognized for their respective contributions to various fields of medicine in the Philippines and internationally.

Meanwhile, recipients of the Platinum Leadership Awards for Achievement in the Profession included Patrice Mae Nasser, Stephen Henry Chin, Gemme Teresa Viray, Lovejoy Christi Adverderada, and Roland Renz Limos.

Finally, Gersacio Magno Jr. and Remark Mortalla were named Platinum Leadership Awardees in Humanitarian Service, while Eufenio Pacardio, Ricardo Audan, Rizalito Golingay, and Aleli Frias were hailed as recipients of the Pauline Guilmette Special President’s Award.

SPCโ€™s leadership lineage was also celebrated as directors and presidents throughout the history of the institution were featured in the program, from the schoolโ€™s co-founder Pauline Guilmette up to its current College President Aida Frencillo.

Furthermore, jubilarian batches spanning between 20 and 50 years removed from their graduation were called on stage, along with recognized SPC service awardees which consisted of employees who have rendered at least 35 years of service to the institution.

Among those lauded for their service were Evelyn Gonzaga, Maria Fe Solera, Rose Marie Jose, Ana Julia Enero, Ma. Leonisa Taopa, Mar Ann Bartolo, Marivic Plasencia, and Myrna Dela Cruz.

The final leg of the event was marked by a community dance led by SPC Ulas Campus personnel and members of SPC Kultura and KDC, followed by the singing of the SPC march.

In her closing remarks, SPC Alumni Association Vice President Leah Zamora expressed her gratitude towards the alumni, and reinforced the lifelong friendships shared by everyone in the SPC community.

โ€œPerhaps what makes tonight so special is not simply [because] we gathered for a celebration, but [because] we came homeโ€ฆ Although the years may have changed us, and life may have taken us to different places, coming home to San Pedro College reminds us that some things never change.โ€

Several guest performers were also present throughout the event, including the live band Gap69, Jamie Mangaoil and Edrian Joe Domingo who rendered vocal intermission numbers, as well as internet personality Sherwin โ€œSherwinabolsโ€ Sangalan.

The celebration was also attended by notable invited guests, including the Archbishop of Davao, Romulo Valles and several city councilors.
