To fortify the footing of San Pedro College (SPC) Main Campus and Ulas Campus student-athletes, the four-day Summer Sports Clinic 2026 trained basic skills in its first half, July 26.

Its second day picked up badminton at M2 Badminton Center, which started with gripping, footwork, and swinging superimposed on proper body mechanics, and swimming using efficient techniques at La Herencia.

Volleyball, taekwondo, chess, table tennis, and basketball continued from the previous day at the main campus.

For volleyball men varsity assistant coach Coco Cuison, the sports clinic is an opportunity to establish the six fundamental skills of the sport with contact and non-contact drills.

“Because in volleyball, you cannot start with advanced skill without going on with the basic skill,” Cuison stated, as even experienced players need to brush up on their basics.

Taekwondo team captain Kristeen Manongas shared the sentiment, saying that their members’ strengths are founded on basic techniques which they will be improving through sparring.

“Gina-prioritize namin na hindi lang siya about fun lang or sport lang, ginaisip din namin kung ano ang benefit ng sport na ito sa future…gina-encourage rin namin sila magtry out for varsity team,” she ventured.

Chess player Matthew Angelo Lansang pressed on that preparation is key in his sport.

“Even pros sa chess kay ma-miss nila ang mga perfect na mga tira kay gina-overthink nila,” Lansang said, adding that studying is more productive with fellow clinic participants as they can point out certain moves.

SPC’s Summer Sports Clinic will resume next weekend, Aug. 1-2, with a friendly competition showcasing the skills that participants have developed so far.
