As part of the San Pedro College – Office of Student Affairs (SPC-OSA) sports development programs, student-athletes and coaches from SPC Main Campus and Ulas Campus began a four-day Summer Sports Clinic on July 25.

This iteration featured seven sports, including taekwondo, table tennis, chess, volleyball, basketball, swimming, and badminton, all of which students were free to explore, as the first day focused on the fundamentals.

Rosa Medel Libot, OSA Assistant Head for college, opened the initiative.

“Through quality teaching and guided training, we hope to provide a nurturing environment that promotes discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence, and holistic development through sports,” she stated.

Touching on the importance of the Sports Clinic, basketball players and incoming Senior High School students Luigi Seijero Madrangca and Eumer Kian Bioco backed that daily progress matters.

“As [our coaches] said, lahat ng magagaling na player nag-start talaga sila sa basics. Once ma-master mo na ang basics, pwede ka na mag-move on sa next step,” Madrangca expressed.

Meanwhile, Bioco emphasized that the program encourages self-esteem and camaraderie in the sport that one loves.

According to organizing committee member Reina Althea Sanoy, they plan to introduce more sports apart from this year’s lineup.

“While we did not introduce any new sports this year, one significant development is that the Sports Clinic is now being conducted under a new organization. This marks an important milestone for us as we continue to strengthen and institutionalize our sports initiatives,” she said.

Varsity athletes can also look forward to other programs in line with their goal of holistic development.

“We are planning to organize training camps that will focus on enhancing their technical skills, physical conditioning, and overall performance in their respective sports. In addition, we aim to conduct team-building activities that will strengthen communication, trust, and teamwork.”

Charles Suarez, OSA Sports Coordinator for College, added that it would be ideal for the Sports Clinic to welcome back pre-pandemic sociocultural categories such as voice and dance lessons.

SPC-OSA’s Sports Clinic is an annual, institution-wide initiative running from July 25–26 and Aug. 1–2 this summer.
