Abstract

This study aimed to determine the students’ learning styles and teachers’ teaching styles in relation to the students’ academic achievement in English and Mathematics. The respondents of the study were 233 second year high school students and two teachers teaching English and Mathematics, respectively. The study employed descriptive survey and interview methods with frequency, mean, standard deviation. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Chi-square were utilized as statistical treatments. Results show that majority of the students are visual and kinesthetic learners. Their academic achievement in the abovementioned subjects when grouped according to learning styles ranges from low average to average. There is no significant difference in the academic achievement in English and Mathematics when grouped according to learning styles. Likewise, the most preferred teaching style of the English teacher is discussion while discovery and discussion are the preferred style of the mathematics teacher. There is no significant relationship between the preferred teaching styles of the mathematics teacher and the learning styles and academic achievement of the students.
