Wrapping up the HANSEI: Reckoning Ignites the Champions Within, the purple-clad Shiratorizawa Bears prevailed in the four-team hustle for the championship crown, Feb. 3, following a myriad of academic, athletic and creative events that tested wit, skillset, and grit of SAHS students.

Nekoma Panthers, who also dominated in a number of events, followed at the first runner-up finish while Johsai Lions and Fukurodani Wolves lagged behind at the second and third places, respectively.

Final matches for basketball and volleyball enthralled the crowd at the gymnasium throughout the day as they threw their claps and cheers for their respective teams.

Shiratorizawa claimed the basketball championship following their court dominance against Nekoma Panthers, while Johsai Lions’ 67 bowed to Fukurodani Wolves’ 80 in their battle for 3rd place.

Mohammad Illisain De Leon, Josef Mozart Cabanlit, Albert Edrian Albarillo, Carylle Josh Dagpin and Karlo Alessandro Roslinda were named as the Mythical Five. Among them, De Leon was the most valuable player.

Although odds did not favor the Lions well in basketball, they did in mixed volleyball, after grabbing the top podium against Nekoma Panthers. The match was witnessed with thrill as Lions and Panthers grappled to win every set with razor edge gaps in scores, 3-2.

Meanwhile, the Bears, in the fight for 3rd, pounded Wolves with hairline gaps, 2-1. Interestingly, for both matches, an early lead did not guarantee a win as the losing teams Panthers and Wolves both captured the first sets in their respective volleyball bouts yet faltered to the winning in the end.

Not only in basketball but in esports did Shiratorizawa make strong wins, having the lead in two of six events, namely Subway Surfers and Block Blast and gaining the first runner up finishes in another two events, Call of Duty Mobile (CoDM) and Valorant. Shiratorizawa was a 2nd runner-up for Mobile Legends (ML).

Johsai Lions came too close with also two championships, specifically ML and DOTA 2, but lagged behind in Valorant and Block Blast where they placed last. Lions also finished first runner up in Subway Surfers and second in CoDM.

Panthers also gained two gilded crowns, sweeping others in CoDM and Valorant, but were also dominated by everyone else in Mobile Legends and Subway Surfers, ranking last. In Block Blast, Panthers were the second runner-ups.

On one hand, the Wolves had three first runner up finishes, namely, for ML, Block Blast and DOTA 2, two second runner-ups for Subway Surfers and Valorant and lagging at last for CoDM.

Shiratorizawa did not yield their best in tough physical tussles but in the battle of minds too as they captured the quiz bowl championship. Lions and Wolves trailed behind, ranking 1st and 2nd, while Panthers held the last spot.

In Chess, Wolves claimed their rare victory, while Bears, Panthers and Lions followed in subsequent places.

In radio broadcasting, Nekoma Panthers held the airwaves with tight grip after claiming the top spot and hauling all individual and group awards. Panthers’ performance was recognized for being best in script, technical application, and infomercial.

Ryan Xavier Espinosa and Kirvy Clent Cabunilas were the Best Anchors while Gabriel de Leon was the Best News Presenter.

Fukorodani Wolves came in as the 1st runner-up, although radio broadcasting had only two teams competing.

Festivities of artistry and choreography then dominated the night as contenders in Kalookalike, Impersonation and Mega Crew took center stage, delivering captivating transformations and movements.

Nekoma Panthers owned up the moment in Kalookalike as they are the lone competing team for the said event. In Impersonation, Shiratorizawa did one for Japanese girl group NiziU while Johsai held a mimicry for another Japanese girl group Atarashii Gakko. Wolves did the best impersonation following achievement of the championship while Johsai was the 1st runner-up.

With sharp and commanding movements and undeniable stage presence, Fukoradani captivated the judges, securing the top spot in Mega Crew with a performance that also captured audiences’ cheers. Johsai Lions trailed with a spot behind the Wolves while Wolves and Panthers raked the second and third spots, respectively.

The second day of HANSEI came after one that also brewed competitive ambience as the four teams contended for ascendancy in various sporting, literary and preliminary events.
