Convening around 400 class officers across various programs, San Pedro College Student Congress (SPC-SC) spearheaded โ€œSIDLAK 2025: The First General Assembly and Class Officer Workshopโ€ on Sept. 28 at the gymnasium, kicking off an event dedicated to leadership formation.

SC Moderator Lea Elivera opened the program with welcoming remarks, reminding officers that leadership is a responsibility rooted in service rather than recognition.

โ€œLeadership is not about personal gain but responsibility and accountability to the people who trust you,โ€ she stated.

After the opening remarks, the Board of Officers were formally introduced, led by newly elected President John Laurence Santentes, who will guide and represent the student leaders of SPC throughout the academic year.

Office of Student Affairs (OSA) Head Marlou Jade Eliab’s speech via video message was then played, highlighting the weight of the officersโ€™ duties.

โ€œThe work of a class president isnโ€™t easy, but it is deeply meaningful. Leadership, especially here in San Pedro College, isn’t about prestige but rather the pursuit of holistic formation of yourself, classmates and ultimately to the entire college community,โ€ he said.

Within the morning program, class presidents engaged in discussion of their duties, channeling of concerns, and the reporting of the previous yearโ€™s accomplishments and plans, allowing attendees to better understand their roles and expectations.

Presentation of the ratified Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) highlighted the morning session, further underscoring principles of structure, accountability, and shared responsibility for all members in the following three school years once amended.

For contested provisions, such as whether or not barring class presidents from holding other institutional organization memberships or officerships, the Congress opened the floor for discussion before deciding through a hand-raising vote.

In the afternoon, the program extended to include all class officers, with presidents down to treasurers and auditors joining workshops, breakout sessions, and group reflections to craft resolutions, share strategies, and explore solutions to pressing student concerns.

To officially conclude the program, SC Executive Vice President Vicah Pritz Pesante thanked the participants, the speakers and fellow officers for their time, presence and contributions.
