Strengthening the role of moderators in student leadership development, the Davao Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN) held its first Club Moderatorsโ€™ Summit 2025 on Sept. 20 at the Philippine Womenโ€™s College of Davao (PCWD), with San Pedro College (SPC) joining 11 other colleges and universities.

With the theme โ€œEmpowering Moderators, Cultivating Transformative Student Leadership,โ€ the event emphasized the vital role of moderators in mentoring student leaders and fostering collaboration across institutions.

DACUN President Vicente Antonio Pijano opened the program by welcoming the moderators and highlighting the networkโ€™s mission to strengthen the role of club and organization advisers as mentors and facilitators of student development by equipping them with tools, skills and strategies for effective advising.

In the morning session, Ira Calatrava Valenzuela discussed the role of organizational advisers, focusing on legal and ethical stewardship and strategic partnerships in student institution engagement.

In the afternoon, building on the morning discussions, Derf Hanzel Maiz led the talk on digital leadership and mentoring Gen Z organizations.

He emphasized that understanding Gen Z learning styles and maximizing digital tools are essential for effective mentoring.

Concluding the summit, moderators formally organized an association by nominating and electing officers to compose DACUNโ€™s leadership for the year.
