With the theme โ€œLuminรกre: Awakening the Illumined Purpose Within,โ€ the School of Counseling and Psychology (SCP) held its 4th Pinning Ceremony, August 4 at the Grand Regal Hotel, marking the send-off of psychology and human services seniors to various internship rotation sites.

In his welcome address, SCP Dean Henry Yap underscored the symbolism of pins and nameplates, which go beyond a reflection of the studentsโ€™ academic accomplishments.

โ€œMay the pins and nameplates you will receive today serve not only as symbol[s] of your academic milestones but most importantly as a reminder of your commitment to serve others with compassion. May these two elements reflect your perseverance, dedication and calling to serve with love,โ€ Yap said.

He also expressed his desire for the incoming seniors to continually exemplify the core values of San Pedro College (SPC): quality care and wellness education.

Ruth Marie Zosa, the schoolโ€™s associate dean, presented the pins and nameplates, explaining the meaning behind the symbols and characters engraved on each element.

Yap and Zosa also led the pinning proper, as each student, accompanied by an escort, took the stage to be formally pinned.
Afterward, the seniors had their parents or guardians pin the nameplates onto their internship uniform.

Delivering inspiration to the new interns, psychology alumna Margaret Dawn Gecale, in her speech, shared how she juggled classes, internship duties and extra-curricular activities that she eventually recognized as experiences that prepared her for struggles in medical school and residency.

โ€œSo hereโ€™s what I want you to remember: whatever you do, now matters. Every effort, every struggle, every little thing you choose to face with courage will shape the future youโ€™re stepping into. Even if you donโ€™t see the outcome yet, trust the process,โ€ Gecale remarked.
Recognizing the individuals who forged their paths, Jeica Vanette Liray and Reena Kyrene Nolasco paid their teachers and parents tribute in their speeches, respectively.

Meanwhile, Julianne Gaye Andal offered a tribute to their fellow co-interns, highlighting the bond that the batch formed along the way made their academic journey bearable.

โ€œThe teams we formed whether for projects, outreach, or a simple class presentation became spaces of support and laughter. Even the quiet nods exchanged on the hallways or the shared looks of exhaustion after a long day reminded us that we were not alone in this,โ€ she added.

Shortly after, the students sang to the tune of their batch song “Ang Kinabukasan,โ€ an original song composed and performed by their fellow batchmates.

Closing the afternoon ceremony were remarks from Hazel Victoriano of the SCP faculty.

Beyond representing SPC in their rotation sites, Victoriano emphasized that the new interns would represent โ€œhopeโ€ and how these individuals illuminate the lives of those they serve.

โ€œYou are called not to have all the answers but to be present, understand and carry your purpose with integrity and humility,โ€ she added.

The Monday ceremony denoted the start of the one-semester, 300-hour practicum of the psychology interns and the two-semester field experience courses of the human services students.
