Madayaw International Multidisciplinary Research Conference marked its 8th year, Aug. 13, at San Pedro College (SPC) Philomene Labrecque (PL) Hall, emphasizing innovations through human-centered digital transformation and drawing participants from schools and agencies.

Commencing the event, SPC President and Overall Chair Sr. Aida Frencillo, spearheaded the ceremonial ribbon cutting and the opening of the poster exhibits.

Sr. Frencillo welcomed each participant in her opening remarks, highlighting the essential purpose of research and the event.

“Madayaw 8.0 is more than just an academic event but a celebration of creativity, innovation, and purpose. Let this gathering be an opportunity to present our research and engage in meaningful dialogue, spark fresh ideas, build enduring partnerships and inspire one another toward impactful action,” she said.

Pre-test was conducted to gauge students’ prior knowledge of research topics, followed by a keynote address from Ronel Dagohoy, vice president for research, development and extension at Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences, and Technology, who discussed ongoing issues and challenges in the field and encouraged the essence of collaboration.

“If you want to grow, we need others… Research governance requires collaboration,” Dagohoy stated.

The morning program wrapped up with an open forum and the awarding of certificates.

Director of the Community Engagement and Extension Services and Vice Chair Remark Mortalla introduced the plenary speakers, marking the start of the afternoon session of the program.

Mohamad Haniki Bin Mik Mohamed, professor at the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia, dwelled on the topic of leveraging collaborative research for smoking cessation advocacy, sharing as well the goal of Malaysia with this issue.

“The mission of Malaysia is to become a tobacco free nation by 2040, which means the end game of tobacco. I am sure most countries will also have their own strategies for the tobacco end game where the prevalence should be less than five percent,” Mohamed stated.

Moreover, second plenary speaker, Leong Sui Sien, an associate professor at University Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, discussed “From Lab Bench to Chicken Coop: Science-Industry Synergy in Probiotic Poultry Feed Innovation.”

Post-test, presentation of certificates to the speakers, and acknowledgment of sponsors capped the first day of Madayaw 8.0.
