Fostering active collaboration and sense of leadership with one another, class representatives and House of Committee (HOC) members of the Student Congress (SC) gathered for the organization’s second general assembly and team building titled, โ€œSINAG: Mas Maliwanag na Bukasโ€ at the San Pedro College (SPC) Auditorium, Feb. 8.

In her opening remarks, SC Moderator Lea Elivera expressed how the assembly served as an opportunity for open discussions and dialogue that could โ€œempower them to become leaders with integrity, empathy, and responsibility.โ€

โ€œLeadership is not defined by position only, but by purpose. It is reflected in the courage to speak, the willingness to listen, and the commitment to act as the best interest of the common good,โ€ Elivera said.

Speaker and former SC President Hanz Christian Lareรฑa further set the tone of the assembly with an inspirational message, emphasizing the leader-member relationship and key qualities of proficient leadership.

“[You have to] connect with one another because leadership is not about being alone, no man is an island โ€ฆ have some time to build your trust and bond with [your co-officers],โ€ Lareรฑa said on being an effective leader.

Meanwhile, executive officers from the organization delivered reports during the first half of the assembly.

SC President John Laurence Satentes presented the midyear report, highlighting events facilitated by the organization prior to the assembly and outlining plans for the remainder of the second semester.

Planned events for the rest of the academic year include the SocieTalk Session 2, which will tackle government and politics; the third phase of the Community Engagement and Extension Services (CEES) project on breast cancer awareness; a pet wellness project and exhibit; the organization’s year-end evaluation; a year-end outreach program; and Pulong ni Pedro for the second semester.

General Treasurer Aisha Marie Abueva, Auditor Devon Micah Ferolino, and Assistant Treasurer Jack Lloyd Salas jointly delivered the treasurerโ€™s report, detailing the organizationโ€™s financial status and fund utilization.

Various team-building activities also took place during the general assembly, boosting camaraderie and fellowship among student leaders.
