To celebrate the pinnacle of years’ worth of sacrifice and perseverance, San Pedro College (SPC) held the commencement exercises for its platinum jubilee batch at the SMX Convention Center on June 25, marking the 67th iteration for the college department and the 28th for the graduate schools.

1,781 graduates in total from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs were confirmed by SPC President Sr. Aida Frencillo, as presented by Vice President for Academics Ana Julia Enero.

Of that total, 158 came from the graduate schools, 633 from the School of Nursing (SON), 414 from the School of Medical Laboratory Science and Public Health (BSMLSPH), 344 from the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS), 153 from the School of Counseling and Psychology (SCP), and 79 from the School of Business Management, Education, Arts, and Sciences (SBMEAS).

Achieving the highest academic distinctions were Batch Valedictorian Kayzea Bianca Nacion of BSMLSPH and Batch Salutatorian Jeica Vanette Liray of SCP.

In her prayer for peace and unity, Liray offered a moment to pray for countries stricken by war and for victims of injustice, discrimination, genocide, and violence. Furthermore, she extended her well wishes and gratitude to the mentors, parents, and all those who played a role in the academic success of this year’s graduates.

Nacion, on the other hand, implored her peers to allow themselves to continue in the face of uncertainty and past failures, as she shared her journey from overcoming the challenges of halting her academic pursuits to raise her son before eventually taking the stage to deliver her valedictorian speech.

“Sometimes, we experience delays so that we can discover [that] there is far more to gain than [the] time [we] lost. Because within those days, months, and years of delay, we gain experiences, meet people who change us, learn valuable lessons, and realize that setbacks often prepare us for a stronger comeback. To those who feel they have no choice, to those living with regrets, to those who are still figuring life out, and to those who feel lost, trust that your story is still unfolding. You are living the timeline you are meant to live. Every sacrifice and every hardship is simply part of the journey toward your greatest moment. Life has so much more to offer,” she said.

Apart from Latin honors and academic excellence distinctions, students who excelled across various facets beyond academics were also recognized. Among the special awards given were the Community Extension Service Award, Institutional and Departmental Best Research Awards, Campus Journalism Award, Leadership Excellence Award, Institutional and Departmental Service Awards, and Distinction Awards in inter-school competitions.

Sr. Frencillo also distinguished the recipients of the President’s Award, given to 14 SPC alumni who ranked as topnotchers across different licensure examinations and to departments with recognized achievements.

The commencement rites also featured the official induction of fresh graduates into the SPC Alumni Association, headed by its president Remark Mortalla. Moreover, the SPC Chorale premiered the new school hymn during the opening rites.
