To strengthen the role of moderators in building accompaniment beyond supervising activities, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) of San Pedro College (SPC) facilitated Tinguha 3.0, a two-day formation program, on Sept. 28 at Chateau de Communal in Buhangin, Davao City.

Themed “”From Moderation to Formation: The Moderator as Mentor, Coach and Catalyst in Empowering Student Leaders,” the first-day initiative brought together club and organization moderators to hone their knowledge and skills in institutional orientation, operational readiness, student discipline, operational guidelines, and sports-related activities, ensuring that plans create a meaningful environment.

“As catalysts, we do not merely supervise,” Jose Mari Logroño, assistant head for student activities, said.

For this year’s Tinguha, the program highlights the role of “Moderators as Formators and Catalysts,” emphasizing how formators and moderators help shape the attitudes, values, leadership skills, and sense of responsibility of the individuals they accompany.

Across the first-day session, speakers included Logroño, who delivered his speech about the core functions of OSA; Rosa Medel Libot, assistant head for student discipline, tackled student behavior procedures; Ariel Pescones, coordinator of student activities, outlined operational procedures for student activities; Charles Suarez, coordinator of college sports, discussed sports-related activities; and Marlou Jade Eliab, head of OSA, delivered the concluding remarks.

Tinguha 3.0 builds on the institution’s formation journey, following the initiatives established through Tinguha 1.0 in 2024, which focused on “Moderators as Organization Managers,” and Tinguha 2.0, which highlighted “Moderators as Guides When Conflicts Arise, Transforming Conflict into Collaboration” last year.

“We are guiding student leaders, and we should not navigate the journey on our own without being properly oriented and guided … that is the exact reason why OSA established Tinguha,” Logroño said.

He stressed that launching Tinguha ensures that moderators are fully oriented, supported, and equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for student accompaniment, marking a vital step in strengthening organizations.

Moreover, the three Tinguha programs represent the continuing development of the moderator’s role in the institution, benefiting moderators themselves, student leaders and organization members, as well as the OSA.

At the end of the first session, the program aims to help moderators become more intentional in their accompaniment while developing individuals and catalysts who can inspire growth and meaningful change within student organizations.

The event will continue on Sept. 29 with its second-day conference, which will focus on equipping moderators with formation and professional development.
