With wind-breaking smashes and serves, P&D ended the match with a violent smash against Senior Hi, closing the score at 11-4 in an intense pickleball showdown at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) open court on Sep. 27 during the San Pedro College (SPC) 70th Foundation Anniversary.

Adrenaline surged and palms sweated as each shot left no room for error in the Team Payatot and Senior Hi battle. The first match ended at 11-9, defeating Team Payatot. Senior Hi continued to strike and claimed an electrifying victory.

In the second match, P&D rose to the challenge with the absence of their supposed opponents, SFI Truckers, advancing them to a place in the winners’ bracket.
On the other hand, Girly Pops under the women’s category were automatically crowned as champions as the sole present participants for the females.

Advancing to the final stage, P&D burned the court with precise serves and an aura of victory, carrying their name toward the highest podium.

“Actually, wala kaming preparation. It’s just that, marunong kaming maglaro — we play separately actually. It’s our first time playing here. We just got invited by doc.” said P&D Jofrey Toni Pendon.

According to Pendon, the factors that led his team’s victory are teamwork, perseverance, and never giving up.

“Adjust lang sa kalaro, so teamwork. Actually, it wasn’t my best performance but somehow naka tagos — naka-adjust kami, adapt lang every time. Huwag talagang i-force ang mga tira na mahina.” added Pendon on how his team handled the last match.

Following P&D’s triumphant finish, Senior Hi secured second place, while Team Payatot secured third place.

The alumni league championship will continue on Sept. 28 followed by dribbling and shooting as players of the Basketball tournament go head-to-head vying for the golden trophy.
