Making their mark across various arts, culture, and sporting events for San Pedro College (SPC) and Region XI, SPCians snagged recognitions during the 11th Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Mindanao Games 2025, held last June 2โ€“6 at Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, Inc., General Santos City.

SPC Kultura Theater and Music Ensemble bagged a bronze medal in the folk dance competition, tertiary category. The team was a spot behind another Region XI contender, Cor Jesu College, in the same category, The Voice Publication reported.

Additionally, Jaime Sofia Mangaoilโ€™s vocal prowess landed her a bronze in the vocal solo competition.

With poise and grace, Nesie Julie Viene Roble emerged as the first runner-up, while Christian Jade Cadiz secured the second spot in the search for CEAP Ambassadress and Ambassador, respectively.

Roble also received recognition for delivering the โ€œBest Production Numberโ€ among the candidates.

According to The Voice, eight candidates from Regions XI, XII, and XIII took up the June 3rd evening stage to vie for the said titles.

SPCians also demonstrated their mettle in sporting events.

In badminton, the menโ€™s team secured 4 silver medals, while the womenโ€™s team excelled with 4 gold medals.

The collegeโ€™s menโ€™s hoops team also earned a strong finish with 16 silver medals.

Swimming brought in a major haul, with the menโ€™s swimming team racking up 11 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals, and the womenโ€™s team making bigger waves with 8 golds, 13 silvers, and 8 bronzes.

Delivering dynamic performances, the taekwondo womenโ€™s team struck with strength to claim 2 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.

Chess and table tennis womenโ€™s teams also claimed a gold and a silver medal, respectively.

Emerging ahead of athletes and performers from six Mindanao regions, the Davao Region took the championship crown for this yearโ€™s installment. The delegation managed to haul an outstanding number of 127 gilded titles, 90 silvers, and 45 bronzes in the tertiary category alone.

In a Messenger interview, culture and arts coordinator Roy Villanueva highlighted โ€œpreparation, collaboration, and consistencyโ€ as focal points of the institutionโ€™s strategy for upcoming CEAP Games and other related competitions.

โ€œOne of our top priorities is to establish stronger partnerships with suppliers and coaches, not only to ensure high-quality support and resources, but to nurture a shared commitment to our teamsโ€™ excellence.โ€

Villanueva also underscored the importance of cultivating timely preparation, specifying that they intend to organize capacity-building activities earlier, giving students ample time to develop their competencies and build confidence.

Additionally, they aim to complete a committed roster early as well, which allows them to steer ahead of the competition with less โ€œunnecessary pressureโ€ and to โ€œavoid last-minute decisions.โ€

โ€œUltimately, the programโ€™s goal is to cultivate an environment where readiness is constant, and excellence becomes a habit, not a push โ€” all while balancing academic pressures,โ€ Villanueva added.

The College also sets sights on creating an โ€œenvironment of continuous improvementโ€ by forging and maintaining collaboration with โ€œcoaches, alumni-mentors, and student-leaders.โ€

Villanueva, who also sits as a coach for the Collegeโ€™s winning candidates in the โ€˜Search for CEAP Ambassador and Ambassadressesโ€™ this year, said their training emphasized regular refreshers aimed at keeping their โ€œsharpness,โ€ but without losing sight of allowing them to embrace their authenticity.

โ€œThe preparation wasnโ€™t only rehearsals โ€” it was also about reinforcing their confidence and presence on stage,โ€ Villanueva also noted.

Apart from that, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) coordinator also mentioned personally providing the candidates with guidance, striking a balance between reminding them of their areas of improvement without โ€œoverwhelmingโ€ them.

โ€œWe took time to understand each candidateโ€™s strengths and potential, then crafted personalized guidance to always bring out their best. Our trainings combined discipline with encouragement, ensuring that Nesie and Christian remained focused without feeling boxed in.โ€
