Radiologic Technology students of San Pedro College (SPC) captured the first runner-up spot in their debut performance at the RadTech National Quiz Bee, besting 16 of 17 competing schools during the Philippine Association of Radiologic Technologists (PART) National Convention at Teacherโ€™s Camp, Baguio City, Dec. 12.

Bearing the theme โ€œEmbracing AI in Radiology: Navigating Innovations and Challenges,โ€ the quiz bee was part of the 69th Foundation Anniversary and 54th Annual Convention of PART, bringing together Radiologic Technology programs nationwide.

Coached by Kevin Ace Artil, fourth-year students Kathleen Maquiling, Michelle Magana, Honey Lynn Sulayao, Greg Christopher Segundo, Jezlie Baret, and Christopher John Sumatra marked a historic milestone for the collegeโ€™s Radiologic Technology department in its first national-level competition.

โ€œThere were no major or special preparations made solely for the competition,โ€ Artil said, explaining that the series of competency assessment lectures and examinations integrated into the fourth-year curriculum โ€œalready served as the studentsโ€™ strongest preparation,โ€ as these aligned closely with both board-type and quiz bee-level questions.

He added that while the team remained hopeful, securing a podium finish was not strongly anticipated, especially as it was SPCโ€™s first time competing at the national level.

Meanwhile, other participants said they were keenly aware of the weight of representing the college on the national stage.

“[We] are fully aware of our national representation for the school, especially [since] we are pioneering towards a huge step for the RadTech Program of SPC … it [was] an opportunity that we were willing to pursue,” Christopher John Sumatra said.

Sumatra also credited the teamโ€™s success to the guidance of Artil and the Radiologic Technology faculty, as well as the support of family, friends, and peers, noting that the achievement represented not only a personal milestone but also a historic step for SPCโ€™s Radiologic Technology program.

The PART convention, a key annual event for Radiologic Technology professionals and students, featured seminars, discussions on advances in the profession, and networking opportunities for delegates from schools and institutions across the country.
