Madayaw 8.0, a collaboration of San Pedro College’s (SPC) Research, Publication and Innovation Center (RPIC), Internationalization and Linkages Office, and Community Engagement and Extension Services (CEES), rounded off with multidisciplinary research showcases on its second day, Aug. 14.

Its continuation featured 27 competing posters, one noncompeting poster, and 42 oral presentations across four clusters: Arts, Language, Literature, and Education (ALLE) and Business Management (BM); Environment, Natural, and Physical Sciences (ENPS); Health Sciences (HS); and Social Sciences (SS).

Underscoring that all research is equally important regardless of the winners announced, RPIC Director Elsa May Baron noted in an interview that many served as bench studies, with only a small fraction whose findings were actualized or in the process of materialization.

“It’s not whether which ones are better or would have better quality of results or [more] expansive results. It’s more of the translation of the studies [on] how the community or target audience can really use it,” she stated.

Baron also commended the common factor of all proponents being the small and large scale efforts to target different areas of the society, which ALLE and BM poster winner Junard Duterte was able to share with the publication.

“I took pride in embracing the challenges, the wonderful journey, [and] being a DavaoeΓ±o researcher… I took space for me to grow, to develop my research know-hows and skills in the humblest way possible,” he said.

Duterte aims to improve the quality of lives through the study, “Cracking the Code of Excellence: Unfolding the Board Exam Journey of Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) Topnotchers in the Licensure Exam for Teachers.”

β€œAssessing the Efficacy of Thysanolaena latifolia (Tiger Grass) Panicle as an Oil Sorbent Material” from the Philippine Science High School – SOCCSKSARGEN Region, and both β€œExploring the Experiences and Perceptions of Self-Medication Practices Among Multigravid Mothers,” and β€œInfluencing Factors of Academic Program Selection on Clinical Performance of Student Nurses” from SPC clinched the ENPS, HS, and SS categories, respectively.

Madayaw 8.0 also welcomed two new engagements: the Asia-Pacific University – Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) – Philippines and its first photo contest, “Lights, Camera, Research,” bested by Ingrid Tigullo and mentor Juvren Romvic Batalon.

For its ninth year, Madayaw organizers have set their sights on categorizing the photo contest by educational level, as well as opening a social night between the formal sessions and hosting partners from continents other than Asia.
