In preparation for upcoming performances, the San Pedro College (SPC) Kultura Dance Theatre and Music Ensemble hosted a whole-day workshop, “Sining Indayog 2.0: Dance and Musical Instruments Workshop,” which gathered 150 attendees on Sept. 28 at Philomene Labrecque (PL) Hall and St. Dominic (SD) Building, Room 210.

Preliminaries kicked off the event, followed by opening remarks and the introduction of guest speakers delivered by SPC Culture and Arts Coordinator Roy Villanueva, who expressed excitement over the growing community of performers.

Hosts then interviewed attendees about their expectations and gathered advice that Kultura members could take into consideration.

“I hope that you will not only comply with what is being asked, but take it to heart… that this is to improve [your skills],” SPC Kultura Moderator Geraldine Vicente said.

Additionally, the organization’s Folk Dance Head, Paulene Angelica Araneta, said, “Do what you do with love… and you will love what you will dance.”

Shortly after, guest speakers Miguelito Jervoso and Leah Mae Tajale discussed folk dance fundamentals, after which students practiced dance figures in groups.

In the afternoon, instrumentalists attended a workshop on musical instruments led by Francis Carl Clave at SD 210, while dancers continued at PL Hall with a session on indigenous dance facilitated by guest speakers John Lorenze Damiar, Aiceyah Marie Ilao Tabaloc, and Carlo Renz Balmes.

Maranao culture and dance movements took center stage in the training.

Culminating the workshop, a joint performance of Maranao dances with live music showcased the participants’ skills from the sessions.

Guest speakers later expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share expertise and encouraged students to preserve Philippine culture through performance.

Vicente wrapped up the event with closing remarks and a photo opportunity, thanking participants, reminding them to carry their learnings into future performances, and assuring them of continued support through more workshops ahead.
