𝐊𝐚𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐕𝐈, 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬

Building kinship with fellow performers, Kaalam Dance Company (KDC) of San Pedro College (SPC) launched the sixth iteration of their annual dance concert entitled Explico VI: Sypher – Decode the Movement, held at the SPC gymnasium, May 3.

Despite the late start, eager onlookers were treated to an array of dazzling performances by Kaalam and invited Davao-based dance troupes.

Kicking off were KDC themselves, as they headlined the event with a spirited opener infused with staple hip-hop flares and fresh grooves.

Explico regulars’ Rejects followed up with a fiery dance of their own, performing a remix of Filipino rap hits.

Spicing up the dancefloor, an all-women set by Confrère and KDC took center stage with bold renditions of Chris Brown’s Swallow Me Down and Tate McRae’s Sports Car, respectively.

Other sets featured a pop performance by Area 51, an R&B-themed sequence by veteran group #Go Figure, and a K-pop set by KDC capped off with a return performance by renowned troupe Kindred.

In his closing remarks, Kaalam President Jetro Scott Castrodes underlined the event’s value beyond its standing as a spectacle for the organization.

“Expico VI was not just a performance, it was a reflection of the dedication [and] talent of every heart [present here today]… While tonight was a celebration of movement, passion, and expression, it is also so much more.”

This year, Explico was organized in support of Project KAA-gapay, a community extension initiative catering to the mothers and children of the neighboring communities.

Being an annual occurrence, Explico serves as the culmination of KDC’s calendar activities and as a platform for the group to cooperate and build rapport with the local dance community.
